Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Leader Specific Training
and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills

This course will offer both Scoutmaster/Asst. Scoutmaster Leader Specific Training and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills in a single weekend.  Both of these are required for SM’s and ASM’s and to earn the "Trained" patch.  This training will be held at Camp McKee.

SM/ASM LST presents the knowledge required to be effective as a scoutmaster or assistant scoutmaster in a fun, fast paced, interactive setting.  IOLS gives adult leaders the practical knowledge they need to help Scouts learn outdoor skills. The skills presented closely follow the Boy Scout Handbook and rank advancement requirements. The purpose of the course is to ensure that all leaders are familiar with the basic outdoor skills at the Tenderfoot through First Class levels, and to show them some proven teaching methods.

Both courses will be organized like a troop with a maximum of six patrols of eight scouters each to ensure a hands-on, small-group experience. Staff Instructors will be assigned to each patrol to help as needed in camp set up, cooking of meals, map reading, compass use, rope work, woods tools, hiking and packing, nature, first aid, and Leave No Trace.

Please download the registration form for more detailed information and a list of items to bring to the training.
