Details:  Exploring your roots – where your family name came from, why your family lives where it does, what your parents and grandparents did for fun when they were your age – can be fascinating.  Discovering your ancestors – your parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, and so on – back through history is what genealogy is all about.

This merit badge class will consist of 3 meetings:

1st Meeting – will be at the Scott County Public Library (SCPL) in the Computer Lab from 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm.  It will consist of a lecture followed by genealogical research on lab computers or in the SCPL Kentucky Room.

2nd Meeting – will be an optional visit to the Kentucky Historical Society in Frankfort.  We will meet in the Kentucky Historical Society parking lot at 10:00 am.  Scouts opting not to attend this session must complete requirement No. 5 on their own.

Admission to Kentucky Historical Society: Adults: $8 | Youth (6-18): $6 | Veterans: $6
Children (5 and under), KHS and KJHS members: FREE

Admission to the Kentucky Historical Society also includes tours of the Old State Capitol and Kentucky Military History Museum.  Scouts may tour these, as well as the ground-floor exhibits at the Kentucky Historical Society, on their own (with parental or other adult supervision) after the merit badge meeting is concluded.

3rd Meeting – will be at the Scott County Public Library.  This session is designed to provide additional research time in the Kentucky Room for those Scouts that may need it and also provide the scouts an opportunity to present their work and obtain merit badge requirement completion sign-off.

Scouts must be in full uniform for all sessions and must bring a blue merit badge card signed by their unit leader.

Class size will be limited to 10 participants. - NO WALK INS
