Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills training is a hands-on program developed to give adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. Imagine having hands-on knowledge setting up a campsite, pitching a tent, hiking, outdoor cooking - all the skills necessary to see the outdoor program of the Boy Scouts of America come to life.
The skills sessions presented in Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills closely follow the Boy Scout Handbook and are meant to serve as an adult training outline. By using these skills sessions in conjunction with the Boy Scout Handbook, we can be sure new leaders are proficient in the basic outdoor skills through First Class rank. Our goal is to boost your confidence so you can focus on the really important things - like having fun with your Scouts!
Completion of this course, along with Youth Protection, New Leader Essentials and Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Specific Training is part of earning your “Trained” patch. The intended audience is the leaders of Boy Scout troops, but all registered adults are welcome. This course will be most valuable to you if you have completed Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Specific Training. The course will be taught on a Friday evening and all day Saturday. It is important to attend the entire program to receive training credit for the course. Come have some fun with us!
